Analysis of Methanol as a best alternative fuel

ABSTRACT

Increase in industrialization, growing energy demands and rapid depletion of petroleum fuels and their ever-increasing costs have led to an intensive search for alternative fuels. The substitutes for petroleum fuels are the alcohols and some other fuels such as LNG, RFG, CNG, syngas, biodiesel,etc and among all these alternative fuels the most promising alternative are alcohols-mainly methanol & ethanol. Methanol or methyl alcohol can be produced from coal, a relatively abundant fossil fuel. Methods of fuel production, Fuel properties, performance of engines & exhaust emission characteristics, of methanol has been presented here and compared with the other alternatives and concluded as the best.
