AUTOMATED INSPECTION PRINCIPLES AND METHOD
ABSTRACT
With ever emerging emphasis on quality in manufacturing the present trend is towards automating the inspection process. From the accuracy and the reliable point of view 100% inspection by automated machine is not only superior but also economical in voluminous production when compared with the manual inspection or statistical sampling inspection by human beings. The Japneses automobile industry demonstrated throughout the world that high quality cars can be can be manufacture at relatively low cost. A well developed work ethic and orientation towards quality using automated inspection techniques viz, CMM (co- ordinate measuring machines) and sensor based technology MV(machine vision) etc. are attributed to Japneses success which had made their workmanship admired in the whole world.
The new emerging approaches in quality control function areas, based on advanced sensor technologies combined with computer systems traditionally changing the way inspection and testing are traditionally performed. Other factors that are contributed to modernize QC are the high cost of inspection process as it is currently done. The ever increasing demand by the customers for near perfection in quality of manufactured goods, and the government regulations which require manufacturing organization to maintain comprehensive production and quality records. Also mordent inspection procedures are typically based on sensor technologies, in which sensor are controlled by or communicate data to digital computers
