EJECTION SEATS IN FIGHTER AIRCRAFT
ABSTRACT
To manufacture the critical shapes and the curved shapes is very difficult task. One can manufacture the pats by other methods but we have to eliminate some of the properties and the process will be very tedious and time consuming. So to manufacture such critical shapes, the method of “FLUID CELL FORMING” is used. The machine used for this purpose is the “Quintus Fluid Cell Forming Press”.
The press consists of press frame, press plate, tray station. Adequate number of workers should be available no load and unload the trays, but it usually not less than two per tray.
In this method, the prototype of the part to be manufactured is prepared. Of course the size of prototype is slightly less than the shape of be manufactured. Then this prototype is placed on the trays and is covered by rubber pads to absorb shocks and wear. Then the metal sheet is applied on this assembly and finally hydraulic pressure (usually oil) is used for pressuring the sheet. Thus the required shape with required properties is obtained. The method is useful for mass production also. The pressure is used from below 35 Mpa to over 250 Mpa. The materials used generally are high strength aluminum alloys, stainless steel and pure titanium. Generally the aerodynamic shapes are manufactured by this method.
