OPTIMIZAION OF CONCRETE MIX-DESIGN THROUGH TAGUCHI’S TECHNIQUE

OPTIMIZAION OF CONCRETE MIX-DESIGN THROUGH TAGUCHI’S TECHNIQUE

ABSTRACT

The global consciousness for quality has motivated designers to be engaged constantly in product and process development. The approach, quality by design, developed by Taguchi has produced a unique and powerful quality improvement discipline that differs from traditional practices. In the present paper, Taguchi’s technique has been applied to obtain optimal levels of process parameters of concrete mix design to get the optimal strength of concrete. In full factorial design of Taguchi’s method the optimal levels of mix-design parameters are obtained and confirmed by further experiments. The main steps in Taguchi design of experiment are parameter selection, level selection, orthogonal array (OA) selection, experimentation, factorial effects analysis, selection of optimal parameters combination, prediction of results and then confirmation experiment .If the OA is based on factorial design rather than the full factorial design, then particular combination may not be there and in that case with that combination experimentation is required to be done for confirmation. A computer code is developed in visual C++ for the computation of the Taguchi’s analysis.
