PLASTIC BEARING

PLASTIC BEARING

ABSTRACT

In today’s highly industrialized world where maximum stress is being laid on efficient and economical functioning of each and every part of the machine, bearing s are one of the vital part of the machine. Bearings are machine components which restrain and guide the relative motion that occurs between members of machine under conditions that minimize loss of energy from friction and that control rate of wear. Bearing in many application are located between the shafts and the frame of a machine, though they can be and frequently are located between contact machine members and the frame or between contact members and linkage members. The metal bearings which have been used so far in many industrial and domestic applications perform the same functions but are at high price. The coefficient of friction of metal bearing is comparatively high rate of wear of bearing as well as journal. The failure of lubrication may impose fatal loads on the structure of accessibility is poor. Lubrication is essential for metal bearings and this may contaminate the product. Metal bearings produce high level of noise. These bearings have got poor resistance to conserve environment. In case of journal bearings the absence of lubrication will seize and cause considerable damage to the shaft.

In order to overcome or at least minimize some of above limitations presented be metal bearing, a new class of bearing material manufactured from plastic is acquiring world wide attention. Plastic bearing should be considered in all applications where loads are low and speeds moderate.
