OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUE IN DESIGN

OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUE IN DESIGN

ABSTRACT:

Design is a major factor in production. changes in design at later stages results into huge cost. It is always aimed to optimize the design at the conceptual level through its suitability for manufacture and assembly .DFMA provides a systematic procedure for analyzing proposed design from the point of view of assembly and manufacture. There are specific principles and guidelines for DFM as well as DFA. This DFMA procedure often produces a considerable reduction in pare count, resulting in simple and more reliable products which are less expensive to assemble and manufacture. It directly reduces escalating costs at later stages, due to proper care during early phases of design. To conclude, DFMA is beneficial technique for design optimization and can be applied successfully through DFMA software packages.
Most engineers focus on system design and tolerance design to achieve performance. Common practice is to base on initial prototype on system design, study against reliability & stability and correct any problem by costlier component & elements i.e. by tolerance design. Relying on tolerance design make product expensive and relying on improved concept design require technological break through. Taguchi mainly focuses on parameter design. It aims at achieving best parameters so that process becomes insensitive to noise variables.
