Paper MIT diesel

Paper MIT diesel

ABSTRACT:

As we know diesel engines are reliable, fuel efficient, durable, easy to repair, and inexpensive to operate. Also a diesel engine commonly has a life of one million kms in heavy-duty trucks, and can power city buses for 10-12 years. Diesel engines offer better fuel efficiency resulting in lower global-warming emissions.
But recent reports from health experts have identified serious health risks associated with emissions from diesel engines, especially oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions. Cost-effective diesel exhaust control options such as catalysts and particulate filters are available which can significantly reduce emissions from diesel-powered trucks, buses, and off-road equipment.
Various types of oxidation catalysts & oxidizers offer a technological solution to controlling diesel particulate matter and offer an effective control strategy. Oxidation catalyst, Trap oxidizer technology can substantially reduce particulate, smoke and odor from diesel engines. Advances continue in the development of lean-NOx catalysts, oxidation catalyst & trap oxidizer technology and improvements evolve which would further enhance the application of this technology to diesel engines
