National Institutes of Technology (NITs), IIITs and other premier Technical Institutions in India
The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has entrusted the coordination of the admission process under DASA scheme to NITK, Surathkal from academic year 2010-11 vide an official order (No F-22-12/2007-TSIII dated 04 March 2010).
Following advance information is provided for DASA 2011-12 admissions. Candidates interested in seeking admission in undergraduate engineering programmes in India are requested to take note of important details. Compared to DASA 2010-11, there are several changes in terms of eligibility requirements, fee structure, participating institutions, process etc.
Candidates may note that the detailed instructions for submission of DASA application and rules for processing applications would be available on this web site soon. However, this advance information is provided to enable potential candidates to plan and prepare themselves to meet the requirements for DASA admissions. DASA 2011-12 will be officially launched on 1st April 2011.
The process of application submission will remain online (web based) as was done for DASA 2010. Similarly, the fee payment and document submission will also be an online (web based) process.
1. Eligibility Criteria for 2011-12 admissions:
1. Date of Birth
Candidates who are born on or after 1st Oct 1986 are eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the secondary education board/university certificate [Class X or equivalent] or any certificate issued by government authorities only will be taken as authentic.
2. Residential Eligibility
Candidates must be Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) studying in any country (including India) / Indian Nationals studying abroad. In case of Indian Nationals studying abroad they must have had at least 3 (three) years of education in Foreign country/countries during the last 6 (six) years and must pass the qualifying examination (inclusive of 11th and 12th standard or equivalent) from abroad only.
3. Academic Eligibility
The academic eligibility consists of two major components namely qualifying examination and SAT Subject Tests as given below:
1. Qualifying Examination
All Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination, i.e. Senior Secondary [10+2] or equivalent from any system of education as recognized by the Association of Indian Universities with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and any one of the following as optional subjects viz. Chemistry, Bio-technology, Computer Science, Biology. In addition candidates must have secured a minimum of at least 60% aggregate marks or 6.75 CGPA on a 10 point scale or equivalent grades in the qualifying examination.
2. SAT Subject Tests
All candidates must have a minimum total of 1800* SAT Subject Tests (known as SAT II) scores (Maths level II, Physics and Chemistry) for eligibility for admission under this scheme. For more details on SAT Subject Tests please visit http://www.collegeboard.com/
1. Candidates are required to submit SAT Subject Test scores directly to NITK, Surathkal through the College Board. To do so, candidates who are registering for SAT Subject Tests now must mention designated institute code of NITK Surathkal and request College Board to send scores directly to NITK Surathkal. Note that the designated institute code allocated by College Board for NITK Surathkal is 6530.
2. Candidates who have already taken SAT Subject Tests and would like to use the scores already obtained, are informed to request College Board to send the scores directly to NITK Surathkal at the designated institute code 6530. Candidates may note that they may have to formally request and pay additional charges to College Board for this service.
IT MAY BE NOTED THAT BOTH (i) and (ii) ABOVE ARE ESSENTIAL FOR ASCERTAINING ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY OF THE CANDIDATE.
2. Fee Structure*
1. Registration Fee (Non-Refundable) along with the application, is USD 250. For candidates from SAARC countries, it is USD 400.
2. Tuition Fee (for first year) along with the application, is USD 7000*. For candidates from SAARC countries, it is USD 3500*.
3. In addition to tuition fee, other fees like developmental charges, hostel fee etc., may have to be paid at the time of admission, as per the norms of respective institutes where the candidate has been allotted a seat.
3. Merit list:
Merit list would be prepared solely based on SAT Subject Test scores communicated by the College Board against each applicant’s candidature. Multiple attempts for SAT Subject Tests are permitted. Best of submitted scores (in individual subjects) would be considered for the merit list preparation.
4. Tentative List of Participating Institutes:
As of now, 32 institutes have confirmed their participation in DASA 2011-12. It is expected that the total number of seats in undergraduate programmes (including all engineering disciplines/courses) on offer would be about 2000. This list will be updated as and when some new institutions confirm their participation in this scheme. However, the actual seat matrix would be uploaded on the web site on April 01, 2011 during the formal launch of the admission process.
5. SAT Subject Tests (also known as SAT II) - Centers and Dates:
Please refer to College Board web site (http://www.collegeboard.com/) and note the available options for SAT Subject Tests. It is recommended that candidates take SAT Subject Tests at appropriate time, such that SAT Subject Test scores reach NITK, Surathkal (directly from College Board) latest by June 29, 2011.
