In recent years, the importance of logistics and SCM has been increasingly recognized. Its importance is increasing due to deregulated market, globalization, customer service, and business environment that are conducive to integration and co-operation. SCM links all the players, who are involved in converting raw materials into products/service and delivering those products/service to customers at the right place and right time in most efficient matter. It refers to the out of managing the flow of materials and products from source to user. The benefits of SCM in forthcoming when all the channel members including supplies, manufactures, distributors and retailers/customers behave as if they belong to the same chain and enhance their performance significantly by sharing the information across chain.
IT enabled supply chain management provides an innovative approach for integrating manufacturing and distribution. With the help of modern intelligent and decision support tools, and the growing use of Internet business practices. This paper focuses on the integration and co-ordination issue in SCM. It specifically discusses the different electronic mediated environment available to deal with these issues. It integrates the theories and application of relationship management for effective SCM. Also it examines the literature related to IT. Advantages of IT enable SCM and some of the software is also discussed. Emerging CRM oriented system is explained and product flexibility offered by it in highlighted.
