NATIONAL SEMINAR ON LAW and MANAGEMENT Policy Perspectives 22nd & 23rd (Saturday & Sunday) January 2011 At GITAM UNIVERSITY, Visakhapatnam
Seminar Impression
No society can exist without Business & Law. The Legal regime operating in society ensures that every business enterprise functions in accordance with the canons of law. Every business enterprise, whether a multinational,
medium or small, must conform to the legal standards, set by the Government to achieve its aims and objects. This is imperative for efficient and healthy functioning of any organization. Law helps to know about the rights and responsibilities which need to be borne in mind by the managements running a business. In India there are a host of legal regulatory mechanisms relating to business, like the Indian Contract Act ; The Companies Act; Foreign Exchange Management Act; Consumer Protection Act; Competition Law etc. All these laws play very important role in the orderly development of trade and commerce in the country. With the adoption of new economic policy by the Govt. in 1991,
a need has been felt to prohibit anti-competitive business practices, regulation of insurance and banking sector, tax laws that promote a healthy growth of business enterprises, regulate imports and exports and industrial laws to harmonise labour management relations. In fact, the list of legislations in the business domain is so long that it will not be
possible to cover them under one landscape. The two day seminar on “Law and Management : Policy Perspectives”
attempts to rope in various laws that affect the business in the present liberalized economic scenario and their impact on the business environment with the birth of WTO, to which India is a signatory:
