NISARG RUNA BIOGAS PLANT: Fuel for the Future of India

NISARG RUNA BIOGAS PLANT: Fuel for the Future of India

Abstract

With solid wastes getting accumulated and wastelands and dumping grounds getting increasingly scarce, we have to find better methods of waste disposal instead of dumping them in open and this is where the importance and necessity of biogas increases. Most importantly, this is not the biogas plant used in villages. We are referring to the recent improvements (called the NISARG RUNA biogas plant) because of which biogas now can be used in cities like Mumbai too. Thus biogas plant can be used a very effective method of disposing solid waste.

We find that biogas plants can be set up quite easily in both rural and urban areas. Also with the design of the biogas improving, we can get better output, almost equal to that of LPG. The improvements suggested here are as follows: -

1. Use of a 5HP mixer to process the waste before putting it into the predigester tank.
2. Use of thermophilic bacteria in place of the conventional methanogenic bacteria in the predigester tank.

The comparison between biogas from conventional methods and from the NISARG RUNA biogas plant will be given later.

We find that the NISARG RUNA biogas plants can easily satisfy problem of solid waste management. Use of the NISARG RUNA biogas plant on a large scale is indispensable if we have to improve our surroundings. It will promote economic development since it is cost-effective. It will improve the ecological balance. It will make the locality clean and green since it uses waste material and the manure from biogas is of rich quality. It will also reduce the pressure on fossil fuels and the energy crisis. This method of waste disposal is efficient, eco-friendly as well as cost-effective. Therefore considering all the advantages, the NISARG RUNA biogas plants can be rightfully called the Fuel for the Future of India.
