NUCLEAR POWER: PROMISE AND PROBLEMS

NUCLEAR POWER: PROMISE AND PROBLEMS

INTRODUCTION

Mankind is searching tirelessly for a new, cheap and abundant power source, since the conventional source of power generation are limited more over, with rapid in industry and living standard of the people, together with bombing increase in population, it is estimated that the present fossil fuel will not least more than few decades to supply the demand of the electric power. The discovery of the fusion of uranium was tremendous importance, since it opened prospectus of using the vast energy stored in the atomic nuclear for production nuclear power. A unique feature of nuclear energy is an exceptionally high degree of concentration, which exceeds by many million of times the concentration of Energy in the conventional fossil fuel.

For Example- Complete fission of 1 Kg of uranium content of energy equivalent of about 20*106 ‘KWH’ (Kilo Watt Hour). Such an enormous amounts of can be obtained by burning of about 2,000 Tons ( i.e. 2*106) of high-grade coal.
