About Delhi
Delhi, has seen the rise and fall of many empires which have left behind a plethora of monuments that the grandeur and glory of bygone ages. A city which traces its history to Mahabharata, the great epic tale of wars fought between estranged cousins, the Kauravas and the Pandavas for the city of Indraprastha. Mughals ruled Delhi in succession starting from Qutab-ub-din to Khiljis, Tughlaqs . The city of Delhi passed on to the hands of the British in 1803 AD. It was only in 1911, when the capital of British empire was shifted from Calcutta to Delhi, that Delhi got its present prestige. After independence also, a kind of autonomy was conferred on the capital but it largely remained a chief commissioners regime. In 1956 Delhi was converted into a Union territory and gradually the chief commissioner was replaced by a Lt. Governor. In 1991, the national capital territory Act was passed by the parliament and a system of diarchy was introduced under which, the elected Government was given wide powers; except law and order which remained with the central Government. The actual enforcement of the legislation came in 1993
New Delhi, the capital of India, is surrounded on three sides by Haryana and to the east, across the river Yamuna by Uttar Pradesh. Historically, the city has long since been the foremost in political importance with successive dynasties choosing it as their seat of power, between the 13th and the 17th centuries. Remnants of the glorious past survive as important monuments in different parts of the city.
Delhi is situated on the banks of river Yamuna in the northern part of India. Once a part of the Aravalies, today Delhi has only the Ridge area to tell the story of the greenery this place once had. Himalayas are in the North of Delhi. The capital of India is a land locked city. The distance from the sea gives Delhi an extreme type of continental climate. The summers in Delhi are very hot and winters very cold. The temperature range varies from 45 degrees in summers to 4 degrees in winters. The winters are marked by mist and fog in the mornings and often sun is seen in the afternoons. The cold wave from the Himalayan region makes winters very chilly. In summers the heat wave is immense and adequate precaution has to be taken before going out in the hot summer afternoons.
Climate
The best season to visit Delhi is during the spring seasons of February to April and August to November. The bloom season of February and March make Delhi colourful. The weather of Delhi in November is little cold but pleasant. The maximum temperature of Delhi in November is ~29oC and minimum is ~12oC. The light woolen cloths are often required in nights.

About Jamia Millia Islamia
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is one of the Central University of India located in Delhi. It came into existence at Aligarh in 1920 during the Khilafat and Non-cooperation movement in response to Gandhiji’s call to boycott government supported educational institutions and later was moved to Delhi.
It became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988.
JMI derives its name from Urdu language in which Jamia means University and Millia means National. Its campus is located in South Delhi.
Today, JMI is an ensemble of a multi layered educational system which covers all aspects of schooling, under-graduate, post-graduate and doctoral level education.
It has 9 Faculties; Faculties of Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Education, Humanities & Languages, Architecture & Ekistics, Fine Arts, Law and Dentistry. In addition to various faculties, there are twenty centres belongs to different disciplines, that have given an edge to it in terms of critical research in various areas.
How to reach Jamia Millia Islamia?
Jamia Millia Islamia is located on the south-east corner of Delhi. One may reach the University by road. It is well-connected to all parts of Delhi. From the Indira Gandhi International Airport, it is situated at a distance of 25 kms. From the New Delhi and Old Delhi Railway Stations, the distance to Jamia is about 16 kms. From the Inter State Bus Terminus, Kashmiri Gate the distance of Jamia is 20 kms., whereas from Sarai Kale Khan Bus Terminus the Jamia is at a distance of 6 kms.

Solid State Chemistry
Human Society is increasingly dependent on advanced solid state materials, whether these are semi-conductors, metals, high Tc superconductors, polymers, catalysts, composites, magnetic materials, fast ion conductors, hydrogen storage materials, amorphous materials, molecular magnets or nano-materials, solid state chemistry has played pivotal role in tailor-making the materials. The great skills of solid state chemists in developing methods of synthesis and their understanding of the structure-property relationship has made it possible to design materials which have specific structure and properties with wide range of applications. Solid state chemistry is a multi-disciplinary subject and forms the life line of materials science. It has played a great role in materials development in wide ranging fields of strategic importance such as atomic energy, space, defence, energy security and so on.
The Association (ISCAS)
The Indian Association of Solid State Chemists and Allied Scientists (ISCAS) was founded on March 4, 1998. It is a registered society with its registered office at Jammu. In addition to a large numbers of annual and student members, the Association has about 400 life members from about fifty leading universities of the country and abroad; BARC, Mumbai; Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Trivandrum; Six IITs; Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; JMI Delhi and many other leading private and autonomous organizations. The membership is open to scientists/academia, working in solid state chemistry and allied areas. The aims and objectives of the Association include:
# To popularize and promote teaching and research in solid state chemistry and allied areas..
