CSIR Sponsored National Seminar on NANOTECHNOLOGY AND CONVERGING TECHNOLOGIES IN AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS At PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore

About the Seminar

Future automobiles need to be fuel efficient and less pollutant with economical technical solutions. Technologies related to cost-effective improvements, based on miniaturization, new lighter and stronger materials, new energy systems are the need of the hour. The automotive sector is a major consumer of material technologies – and nanotechnology promise to improve the performance of existing technologies significantly. Nanotechnology provides the automotive industry with gargantuan space for innovations and mammoth chance for new markets. It also helps around the vehicles to improve functionalities, to support the key elements. Almost all automotive components can be improved by nanotechnology.

The automotive industry will benefit from this trend by getting advanced powertrain, using new energy, reducing car weight, enhancing material functions, increasing comfort degree & flexibility, raising cost efficiency and so on. Nanotechnology has close synergism with other new molecular scaled technology: bio, neural, and infotech. Their convergence realizes the exact control of molecular construction. The converging technologies will not only affect the industry, but also change the life style and society. Their impact on the environment, energy, labor market and national economy should be scrutinized in advance. The National Seminar on "Nanotechnology and Converging technologies in Automotive Applications” concentrates on the
impacts and applications of nanotechnology in the next generation cars, trucks and buses, including energy
upgrading, advanced powertrain, functional materials, electronics and communication etc. This seminar is to be viewed as an important step in the process of enhancing the interaction between the institutes and industrial R&D communities, ensuring that the new knowledge generated is made available to those who can use it in a timely manner.
