OBJECTIVE OF COURSE

The continuing global endeavour to mathematize almost all real world problems through mathematical modeling makes it necessary that the contents and the instructional programme of mathematical course for Scientists,Engineers, Technologists and other users are not in isolation from their applications but are enriched with application orientation. The present short term training programme is motivated from this conviction. The objectives of the programme are
* to discuss the application orientation of mathematical concepts and to motivate participants to imbibe this in their instructional programme
* to introduce mathematical modeling concept and discuss specific Mathematical Models of & Real world problems, particularly from engineering discipline.
* To familiarize the participants with innovative trends of industrial mathematics
* To provide enough time in the training programme for a close interaction of all the participants & resource persons

COURSE OUTLINE

* Application orientation in the instructional programme of Engg. Mathematics
* Mathematical Modeling & discussion of specific models of Real World Problems
* Industrial Mathematics
* Discrete Mathematics
* Computational / Numerical Method

RESOURCE PERSONS

*Faculty from various prestigious Institutions
* Faculty from Host Institution
(You can visit our website www.svnit.ac.in for details) to introduce mathematical modeling concept and discuss specific Mathematical Models of & Real world problems, particularly from engineering discipline.
* To familiarize the participants with innovative trends of industrial mathematics
* To provide enough time in the training programme for a close interaction of all the participants & resource persons

Preamble

The application of mathematics to solve problem situations in the real world, otherwise termed mathematical modeling, can be usefully thought of as a complex process involving a number of phases:

* understanding the situation described
*  constructing a mathematical model that describes the essence of those elements and relations embedded in the situation that are relevant
*  working through the mathematical model to identify what follows from it
*  interpreting the outcome of the computational work to arrive at a solution to the practical situation that gave rise to the mathematical model
*  evaluating that interpreted outcome in relation to the original situation
* communicating the interpreted results. The proposed staff development program(SDP) features the Intuitive classification of Real World Problems as Engineering & Industrial Problems, Medical & Biological Problems, Ecological Problems and Others.
The proposed SDP is an interdisciplinary programme which will bring together the faculties from engineering disciplines, Industries, faculties from Science colleges & Universities and young researchers. This will be greatly benefited in providing conceptual understanding, computational & procedural fluency and problem solving skills.

ELIGIBIITY FOR PARTICIPATION

 The training programme is open to engineering college teachers (both degree and polytechnic colleges) from AICTE approved institutions. As the training programme is of interdisciplinary nature, teachers of any Engineering disciplines and Applied Sciences can attend the programme.

 REGISTRATION FEE

There is no fee for the teachers from AICTE approved institutions. Selected participants are eligible for free boarding and lodging in the institute’s hostels/guest house. To and fro charges limited to AC 3-Tier train or AC deluxe bus will be paid upon production of ticket.

 LAST DATE OF REGISTRATION

 The completed registration form may be sent either as an e-mail attachment or as a hard copy on or before 15-11-2009. The registration form must contain the signature of the Head of the Institution with seal.
