BIODIESEL THE CLEAN, GREEN FUEL FOR DIESEL ENGINES

BIODIESEL THE CLEAN, GREEN FUEL FOR DIESEL ENGINES

ABSTRACT

Biodiesel fuel for diesel engines is produced from vegetable or animal fat by the chemical process of esterification .This paper presents a brief information of diesel engine technology and an overview of biodiesel, including performance characteristics, economics and potential demand. The performance and economics of biodiesel are compared with those of petroleum diesel. Biodiesel being superior fuel from the environmental point of view , offers a range of environmental benefits unrivalled by any other alternative transport fuel.
• Biodiesel  reduces  nearly  all forms of air pollution. Most importantly, biodiesel reduces air toxics & cancer causing compounds.
• The lead content of biodiesel is very slight or zero.Since biodiesel is derived from plant    material so it contains negligible concentrations of  heavy metals like nickel, mercury,     admium & arsenic.

Several universities, government and private sector research laboratories have actively investigated the use of biodiesel as a fuel for use in diesel engines during the last decade.
The national biodiesel board has utilized input from these entities to develop a market plan for the commercialization of biodiesel as a transportation fuel in the united states. The procedures used to identify research that was needed for each market is identified and as well as specific research needed.
