COMPUTER APPLICATION OF GENETIC ALGORITHM IN OPTIMAL RESERVOIR OPERATION
ABSTRACT
Water is on of the most important commodity in the Agricultural activities. Reservoir are one of the most important component of a water resources development project and operating them optimally is very important mainly in Agriculture based developing countries like India. There is a need for optimum utilization of water because of its growing demands. Hence to develop optimal operating policies that would enable matching the supplies and demand is essential. In the present study, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) model has been applied to derive optimal operational policies for Willingdon reservoir. Genetic Algorithms application in the field of water resources engineering is a recent origin, which handles non-linear optimization problems in an efficient manner. Genetic algorithm have greatly benefited from developments in the computer technology for its faster development. By using a computer programming results of genetic algorithm is obtained. Quantity of water should be released from reservoir corresponding to the storage zones are obtained based on the results.
