GREEN HOUSE EFFECT

Have you ever thought of what keeps our planet warm enough to sustain life on it. Ya, the instant idea came to your mind must be “SUN” but the inside story tell us something different.

The gaseous blanket surrounding the earth from dangerous ultraviolet radiations coming from the sun. The atmosphere plays an vital role in maintaining the heat balance on the earth by absorbing the infrared radiating received from the sun and re-emitted by the earth. This is what we call “GREEN HOUSE EFFECT”.

The earth is heated by the sunlight and some of the heat that is absorbed by the earth is radiating back into space. Some of the gases in the lower atmosphere acting like glass in a green house, allow the radiation but do not allow the earth to re-radiate the heat into space. In other words we can say that these gases in the atmosphere are transparent to sunlight that strongly absorbs infra-red radiation which earth reflect back as heat A part of the heat so trapped in theses atmospheric gases is reemitted to the earth’s surface resulting in heating of earth’s atmosphere.

In fact the ‘Green House effect’ are responsible for keeping our earth warm to sustain life on it. If the concentration of these gases are very less the temp will drop to 00 C, if there concentration became very high the heat trapped by them will be more, which may threaten the existence of life on the earth.
