Embedded System

ABSTRACT:

Now in this 21st century life has become very simplified and luxurious. Communication as well as hand work has become easier than early years all this revolution has happened due to use of “embedded systems” in our day to day life.

Embedded system is a computing device combining Hardware and software, which perform a dedicated functions. It is a special-purpose computer system, which is completely encapsulated by the device it controls. The microprocessor (microcontrollers) forms the heart of embedded systems.Microprocessor is a chip which can be programmed to perform a function. The first consumer oriented microprocessor was Intel 4004 which found its way in calculators and other small devices.

Initially the cost of these systems was very high but now it is reduced much more along with rise in functionality and processing power according to ‘Moores Law’. It has characteristics like speed and cost which are in direct proportion. It has many apllications such as ATM, cellular phone, printers etc.

The ability to have many functional blocks on-chip is a requirement for designers today. When looking at all the new technologies and emerging design tools available, one knows that these tools have made it easier to architect systems with these new solutions. New leading-edge applications ranging from games to networking infrastructure equipment are driving the need to include large-capacity and high-speed memory on-chip rather than separately as a discrete device.
