About Delhi
Delhi, has seen the rise and fall of many empires which have left behind a plethora of monuments that the grandeur and glory of bygone ages. A city which traces its history to Mahabharata, the great epic tale of wars fought between estranged cousins, the Kauravas and the Pandavas for the city of Indraprastha. Mughals ruled Delhi in succession starting from Qutab-ub-din to Khiljis, Tughlaqs . The city of Delhi passed on to the hands of the British in 1803 AD. It was only in 1911, when the capital of British empire was shifted from Calcutta to Delhi, that Delhi got its present prestige. After independence also, a kind of autonomy was conferred on the capital but it largely remained a chief commissioners regime. In 1956 Delhi was converted into a Union territory and gradually the chief commissioner was replaced by a Lt. Governor. In 1991, the national capital territory Act was passed by the parliament and a system of diarchy was introduced under which, the elected Government was given wide powers; except law and order which remained with the central Government. The actual enforcement of the legislation came in 1993
New Delhi, the capital of India, is surrounded on three sides by Haryana and to the east, across the river Yamuna by Uttar Pradesh. Historically, the city has long since been the foremost in political importance with successive dynasties choosing it as their seat of power, between the 13th and the 17th centuries. Remnants of the glorious past survive as important monuments in different parts of the city.
Delhi is situated on the banks of river Yamuna in the northern part of India. Once a part of the Aravalies, today Delhi has only the Ridge area to tell the story of the greenery this place once had. Himalayas are in the North of Delhi. The capital of India is a land locked city. The distance from the sea gives Delhi an extreme type of continental climate. The summers in Delhi are very hot and winters very cold. The temperature range varies from 45 degrees in summers to 4 degrees in winters. The winters are marked by mist and fog in the mornings and often sun is seen in the afternoons. The cold wave from the Himalayan region makes winters very chilly. In summers the heat wave is immense and adequate precaution has to be taken before going out in the hot summer afternoons.
Climate
The best season to visit Delhi is during the spring seasons of February to April and August to November. The bloom season of February and March make Delhi colourful. The weather of Delhi in November is little cold but pleasant. The maximum temperature of Delhi in November is ~29oC and minimum is ~12oC. The light woolen cloths are often required in nights.

International Workshop & Conference on Combinatorial Matrix Theory and Generalized Inverses of Matrices At Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, K
International Workshop & Conference on Combinatorial Matrix Theory and Generalized Inverses of Matrices At Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, Karnataka
About the Workshop and the Conference
Generalized Inverses of Matrices and Combinatorial Matrix Theory have established themselves as very important branches of Matrix Theory, having applications in several branches of science.
Developments in theory of generalized inverse resulted from applications in areas such as Statistics, Error Analysis, Electrical Engineering, Digital Signal Processing, Pattern Recognition, Neural Network, Markov chains and Magic Squares to name a few. Advances in combinatorial matrix theory were motivated by a wide range of subjects such as Networks, Chemistry, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science and Information Technology, etc. The two areas interact with each other, which is evident from the interplay between graphs and matrices. Generalized inverses of matrices such as the incidence matrix and the Laplacian matrix are mathematically interesting and have great practical significance.
The Workshop and the Conference are aimed at intensive discussions on these subjects and to introduce new innovations by providing a forum for leading mathematicians and applied mathematicians to come together.

The main objective of the workshop to be held during 02 – 07 January 2012 is to provide a solid foundation and motivation, to pursue research and teaching in the frontline area of ‘Matrix Theory and its Application’ with a special emphasis on theory and applications of “Combinatorial Matrix Theory and Generalized Inverses of Matrices”. International Conference on Renewable Energy Technology ( ICORET - 2011) At PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore
International Conference on Renewable Energy Technology ( ICORET - 2011) At PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore
The Conference
Energy is an important input for economic development but today, the world's energy supply is largely based on fossil fuels and nuclear power. These source of energy will not last forever and are the proven contributors to environmentall degradation. this has led to the governments and industries around the globe thinking serious about alternative sources of energy. This along with declining availability of the fossil fuels have led to the development of renewable energy resources such as biomass, biofuels, wind, solar, geothermal, and hydro energy etc.
Current global trends in energy supply and consumption are not sustainable - environmentally, econoimically, socially but this situation can be changed if we can secure the supply of reliable and affordable energy and effect a rapid transformation to a low-carbon, efficient and environmentally benign system of energy supply. Since exhaustible energy sources are limited, there is an urgent need to focus attention on development of renewable energy source and use of energy efficient technologies. It is estimated that renewable energy could contribute to at least half of all electric power in each of the large economies by 2050.
India is blessed with an abundance of sunlight, water and biomass. Vigorous efforts taken in the past two decades are now bearing fruits as people in all walks of life are aware of the benefits of renewable energy, especially in the decentralized energy systems, which are urgently required in all villages and in urban or semi-urban centers. India has the world's largest programme on renewable energy. The Government of India has created an exclusive Department of Non-conventional Energy Sources(DNES) in 1982 to promote, develop and commercialize the use of renewable energy sources. In 1992, a full-fledged Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources (MNES) was established.

International Conference on Earthquake Analysis and Design of Structures At PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore
International Conference on Earthquake Analysis and Design of Structures At PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore
BACKGROUND
As more than 60% of India is at risk to damaging earthquakes of a design intensity of 7 or higher on the modified mercalli intensity scale, education, training and research in earthquake engineering is essential. Recently, the Latur (1993) and Bhuj (2001) earthquakes as well as the Sumatra tsunami (2005), the Samoa Islands tsunami (2009), the Haiti earthquake (2010), and Chile & Sumatra earthquakes (2010) have resulted in devastating losses of life and property. The collapse and damage sustained by modern buildings and inadequate construction or retrofitting of many buildings are of concern around the world. Hence, there is an urgent need to mitigate damage to buildings and infrastructure and further protect lives. Structures and lifelines designed for typical loading are often badly damaged or can collapse during earthquakes. Thus, ensuring that there is adequate performance of systems during strong ground shaking is paramount to the overarching goal of earthquake engineers and a focus of this conference. It is also necessary to monitor the performance of the structures and investigate retrofitting techniques required for strengthening and performance enhancement. The subject of earthquake engineering requires a multi-disciplinary approach. Apart from civil and structural engineers, geologists and seismologists also play a crucial role in providing the expertise relating to the generation and occurrence of earthquakes. The coordination of expertise within a multi-disciplinary group of experts and the synthesis of their approach with that of the entities, i.e. government and code officials, responsible for implementation is essential.
